Chile’s landmark Chacao Bridge project now looks to be back on a sound footing, with completion expected in late 2022 or early 2023. Funding has been secured to help pay for road rebuilding work in Puerto Rico. The US Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is providing US$110 million to Puerto Rico’s highway and transportation agency, Autoridad de Carreteras y Transportacion (ACT). This funding will be used for Puerto Rico’s Road Construction and Reconstruction Accelerated Programme.

A series of road upgrades and safety improvements will be introduced across the network in Ghana. In all US$154 million will be provided in a loan from the World Bank Group's International Development Association (IDA) for a series of road projects. The IDA loan has a 20-year repayment period. Chile’s Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has revealed an ambitious plan for bridge projects. The MOP has set a budget of US$1.48 billion to be used for a range of bridge projects for the 2018-2023 time period. In all 229 bridges are included in the programme of works, with structures due for maintenance and upgrade work.

A funding package has been secured for a key highway project in Kenya. The Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) is providing close to US$615 million for the project. The final contract for the Banja Luka-Prijedor motorway in Bosnia will be signed with China Shandong International and Technical Cooperation in September. The construction and 30-year operating concession is with Republika Srpska, an autonomous region of Bosnia e Herzegovina.
