Construction equipment manufacturer BOMAG will have a special focus on milling machines and finishers, and will feature two product premieres: the new BOMAG BF 800 finisher (world premiere) and the sales launch of the BM 500/15 compact planer, plus milling drums for third party cold milling machines in the 500mm class.

The 5700C-Max unit from Power Curbers has now been used on a tricky shoulder widening job in New South Wales, Australia. The machine carried out the job close to Robertson in the Southern Highlands, about 1.5 hours drive to the south of Sydney. The job required the construction of a 200m long section of barrier, built to the requirements of the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA). The contractor hand-formed the concrete shoulder as it was about 3m wide at the start and narrowed down to 1m at the end.

Concrete overlays have a long history and proven success in the state of Iowa. Mitchell and Worth counties in north central Iowa have led the way. In the past three years, they have put down approximately 241km of 102mm concrete overlay. Concrete Foundations Inc. Guntert & Zimmerman is offering a new system of telescopic end sections for its concrete pavers, which allow contractors to change widths between pours. These are also said to meet tight smoothness specifications and allow a contractor to carry out width changes quickly.

Demand for concrete slipforming techniques is strong in several key expanding markets

Stringless concrete paving systems are easy to use for contractors - Daniel C Brown. With just a few days of training, Hawkins Construction is now up and running with stringless concrete paving technology. This year Hawkins started using the stringless technology on two Interstate highway paving projects, with a total contract value of US$78 million. The projects were on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska and the first section was for a 9.25km, 18.3m wide stretch of 330mm thick concrete pavement.

A Power Curbers 5700C machine is being used underground in Turkey to slipform the U-shaped concrete platforms on the walls of a new tunnel project.
