France tops Eurobitume’s European bitumen consumption table

Among European countries, France consumed the most bitumen in 2016, using over 2.2 million tonnes of the black stuff, according to figures from Eurobitume. The recent 2016 Eurobitume Bitumen Consumption Statistics for Europe shows that bitumen consumption across all grades for Europe as a whole was 11,274 million tonnes in 2016.

In the US, 23 states have written intelligent compaction (IC) specifications for asphalt paving jobs and more states are expected to follow. Among those states with IC specs is California.

A Spanish contractor has utilised an asphalt plant from Ammann to deliver high-quality material for a key runway at Barcelona Airport. The firm Benito Arnó e Hijos, won the deal to provide asphalt for the reconstruction of the main runway at Barcelona-El Prat Airport. The firm opted to use an Ammann ABT 280 SpeedyBatch plant for the project as this model offered the combination of both mobility and productivity as required. With the short-term nature of the project, a fixed plant would have been unsuitable

Europe has a strong demand for bitumen, with road construction being a key driver. This is clear from new data from Eurobitume. Its newly-released report, 2016 Eurobitume Bitumen Consumption Statistics for Europe, shows that in 2016 the European market for bitumen saw 11,274 million tonnes of the material being used. Called PAVE-TM, the system can capture the installation thickness of any road layer during asphalt paving and uses contact-free measurement technology.
