Interest strong in Chile-Argentina tunnel project

Interest is proving to be strong in the new Agua Negra Tunnel project which will link Argentina with Chile. A number of Chinese contractors are showing strong interest in the project.

Interest is proving to be strong in the new Agua Negra Tunnel project which will link Argentina with Chile. A number of Chinese contractors are showing strong interest in the project. These are China Harbour Engineering, China Railways Engineering, China Shangdong International Economic & Technical Cooperation and China Jiangsu International. The new tunnel will connect San Juan in Argentina with Coquimbo in Chile. The project is expected to cost US$1.4 billion to construct.

Metropistas, a subsidiary of Spanish operator Abertis, signed the agreement with the Puerto Rico Highways and Transportation Authority.     Strong bids have been received for Chile’s Puente Industrial road bridge project, which will be built in Region VIII. Bidders included Spanish firm OHL as well as Besalco Concesiones-Concesiones Viarias Chile Tres and Sacyr Concesiones Chile. Work on the 2.5km bridge is expected to commence in 2014 and the project will cost some US$170 million to construct, with completion expected in 2017.   • New Zambia road project to connect with DRC

    A major upgrade is planned to the road connecting Zambia with the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The 321km road link will be upgraded to dual carriageway status between Zambia’s capital, Lusaka, and the city of Ndola, which lies close to the border with the DRC.
