The Slovakian government is examining bids for two tenders for motorway stretches D1 because of their higher-than-expected costs.

The deal involves the Presov West - Presov South stretch and the D3 Cadca, Bukov - Svrcinovec section, according to a report in Pravda.

Both projects are bypasses of Cadca, near the border with Poland and the Czech Republic, and Presov in eastern Slovakia.

The newly appointed transport minister, Arpad Ersek, review the tenders, the Pravda report said.

The Slovak Institute or Economic and Social Reforms claims that both stretches have been overpriced by €100 million.

In the case of the 5.7km D3 Cadca by-pass, the consortium of 981 Hochtief, 945 Strabag and 3976 Porr submitted the lowest bid, at just over €239 million compared to the expected €199 million.

For the 7.4km D1 Presov bypass, the lowest bid of slightly more than €356 million was submitted by the consortium of Metrostav, 2877 Doprastav and 3281 Eurovia.
