Poland to get more EU funds for the S1 Expressway

Poland has secured nearly €325 million from the European Union for construction of the S1 expressway between the junctions of Przybedz Milowka.  Poland has secured nearly €325 million from the 1116 European Union for construction of the S1 expressway between the junctions of Przybedz Milowka.

The deal was signed with the regional government of the Silesia voivodeship.

The Expressway S1 with a planned length of 130km, runs through the Silesian and Lesser Poland voivodeships. Upon completion, it will connect the A1 motorway near the Katowice International Airport in Pyrzowice with the A4 motorway and the border of Slovakia in Zwardoń along with the D3 Motorway in Slovakia.

    Slovakia said it will tender this year for the 14km R2 expressway linking Roznava and Jablonov nad Turnov with completion likely in 2024. Slovakia's transport minister Arpad Ersek said construction could start by Q3 2019. R2 is a 360km route that will run from Kosice in the east across the country to Trenčín, near the Czech border in the west. It will pass through Bánovce nad Bebravou, Prievidza and Lučenec.     Polish contractor Budimex has won a tender to build a 20km-long section of the S61 dual carriageway in Poland. The section runs from the Wysokie junction to Raczki, the national highways authority GDDKiA announced. Budimex bid just over €484 million for the 29-month design-build contract.
