New bridge to connect Myanmar with China

A new bridge project will improve transport connections between China and Myanmar. The bridge will be located in Myanmar’s Shan area, bordering with China’s Yunnan Province. This will replace the existing bridge at Kunlong. The new bridge will measure 4.2km in length, spanning the Thanlwin River. This will form part of the route running through Theinni, Kunlong and Chinshwehaw and the project includes building 4km of connecting roads.

    A number of tower cranes have helped complete the Chishi Grand Bridge project in China. Six Potain tower cranes were used to build two 280m tall bridge pylons, high in the clouds above the mountains of southern China. The cranes spent 30 months building the pylons at the Chishi Grand Bridge, which will span 1.47km and carry its road deck 180m above the ground. The bridge will open at the end of 2014.

    An Italian joint venture has won the construction contract for Denmark’s replacement 4km-long road and rail Storstrom Bridge. The Danish Road Directorate – Vejdirektoratet - awarded the work to contractors Itinera, Condotte and Grandi Lavori Fincosit along with bridge design consultant Seteco Ingegneria as a subcontractor. Estimated cost is around €280 million for the 26m-wide single-support cable-stay structure. The European Union will subsidise the work to around €15 million.
