Indonesia’s key highway project

Indonesia’s key Trans-Sumatra highway project will be complete in 2024.

Construction work is expected to be complete on Indonesia’s Trans-Sumatra highway project in 2024. In all, the highway will extend some 2,878km. Work is still being carried out on a number of sections of the route, which will be tolled.

Financing has still to be secured for some stretches of the project. In all, the Trans-Sumatra toll road (JTST) is costing close to US$33 billion. The Indonesian Government is providing a portion of the funding required, with a considerably larger portion being secured through bank loans.

The Padang to Pekanbaru toll road, Bengkulu to Palembang toll road and Sibolga to Medana toll road will all connect to the JTST.

  • Vietnam's road expansion

    Vietnam is seeing significant expansion of its highway network at present, with another three major projects now moving forward and much of the financial backing coming from other Asian nations such as South Korea and Japan. A feasibility study is being carried out for the 94km Nghi Son-Bai Vot expressway and this should be complete by October 2010. The project is expected to cost US$1.04 billion and the expressway will have either six or four lanes, based on Transport Engineering Design's study.

  • Funding secured for Chilean highway connection

    Much of the necessary funding has now been secured for construction of the first section of Chile’s Americo Vespucio Oriente (AVO 1) highway. A loan package worth US$832 million is being provided jointly by a number of funding bodies. These are; Banco Estado, Bci and Banco de Chile. In all the project is expected to cost $984 million. The construction work is being carried out by a consortium comprising Sacyr and Aleatica (formely OHL Concesiones).

  • Turkish highways and bridge project financing secured

    The financing package that will pay for Turkey’s €2.43 billion Malkara to Çanakkale highway and 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has now been secured.
