India’s Maharashtra State is setting out a massive programme for infrastructure development. In all some US$47.08 billion of infrastructure works will be carried out. Transport development is a key priority, with a series of major highway construction projects now being planned.

  • Bidders invited for 15 Indian highways projects worth US$4.08bn

    The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is inviting bidders for 15 projects worth US$4.08billion. The combined projects will widen 2,000km of India’s highways. Three of the 15 will involve the widening of narrow roads into six-lane highways, while roads will be widened to four lanes in 10 of the other projects. Contracts for the projects are expected to be awarded in 2012/2013 once NHAI invites financial bids from potential candidates. About 60 companies are expected to compete for them.

    Indonesia’s Government is setting a US$20 billion budget for transport and energy sector development. The Indonesian Government plans to build 559km of new roads as part of a new transport infrastructure programme. Indonesia’s capital Jakarta faces a growing problem due to severe traffic congestion, which is particularly intense at peak periods. Increasing vehicle numbers in the city mean that the existing traffic problem is fast getting worse. The authorities are looking at policies to address the issue.
