Colombia Caribbean connections under construction

Colombia is working on plans to redevelop transport infrastructure in its Caribbean Region. In all nine road projects are underway, which will cost a total of US$2.8 billion. New highways will connect Cartagena with Barranquilla, Carreto with Cruz del Viso and Antioquia with Bolivar. Also being built area route running through Santa Marta Riohacha, Paraguachon and Cordoba-Sucre as well as part of the Ruta del Sol highway.

    Driving work has commenced for Colombia’s Toro Tunnel project. The tunnel will measure 9.8km long and is located in Colombia’s Antioquia Department, with the completion expected in 2022.     A series of highway and tunnel projects are planned for Colombia’s Antioquia Department. These new tunnel and highway projects form part of Colombia’s 4G infrastructure development programme. In all 19 tunnel stretches are planned for the eight highways being built in Antioquia as part of the 4G programme. The new highways are providing 28,000 jobs in all and will improve transport connections between Antioquia Department and Colombia’s Atlantic and Pacific coasts.

    Work is well underway on a new road and tunnel project, which will provide an improved connection between the Colombian city of Medellin and its airport. The new link will measure 24km long in all and the construction work is expected to cost over US$342 million, with completion due at the end of 2018.
