Deutz introduces high torque engines

Deutz used bauma 2016 to introduce two new high-torque variants of its TCD sub-4litre engines. These include the TCD 2.9 and TCD 3.6 engines. Where the 2.9litre TCD 2.9 has been re-tuned to produce a maximum torque figure of 375Nm, the TCD 3.6 has been tweaked to deliver 390Nm. Importantly, Deutz said both engines remain below the 56kW emissions threshold for Stage V, so they do not require SCR to clean up exhaust gases.

Deutz has created high-torque versions of its TCD 3.6 and 2.9litre engine
201 Deutz used bauma 2016 to introduce two new high-torque variants of its TCD sub-4litre engines.

Both engines currently meet Stage IV from using only a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC).

In addition, Deutz said the two engines can also be supplied as high-power variants. For the TCD 2.9, it means a power output of 75kW, while the TCD 3.6 can deliver 105kW.

With the Tier 3/Stage IIIA emissions legislation now in place in North America and Europe, the major engine manufacturers already have an array of solutions on the market. The coming Tier 4 interim/Stage IIIB legislation will be tougher still and most firms are well in hand with their plans to use both in-cylinder and exhaust after-treatment technology. While engines themselves are staying b

Deutz continues to grow its engine line-up with the introduction at CONEXPO-CON/AGG of 12 and 13.5 litre engines, plus the announcement of an 18 litre range later this year. When launched, this will take the firm’s engine line-up from 2.2-18 litres, with power ratings of 25-620kW. The show also provided a first opportunity for US customers to see the company’s TCD 5.0 engine - launched last year at bauma in Munich - and the TCD 2.9 and TCD 9.0 unveiled recently at bauma China.

A new series of inline engines has been introduced from Deutz. Badged TCD9, TCD12, TCD13.5 and TCD18, the power unit nomenclature matches that of engine displacement in litres. For the new flagship 18litre TCD18, it means peak power sits at 620kW and is supported with 3600Nm of torque, and it sits above the firm’s TCD16 V8 engine. The all-new TCD9 however, has thrown out the rule book when it comes to cylinder count. Where previously this size engine would have been a six-cylinder, the new TCD9 is a four
