Chile planning road repairs

Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) will re-open highway concessions worth over US$1 billion shortly.

906 Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) will re-open highway concessions worth over US$1 billion shortly. Amongst these will be new tenders for work to repair roads shattered by the recent earthquake, as well as projects that were halted. These last include the $200 million Coquimbo road network, the $189 million Iquique alternative road access scheme, the $304 million Concepcion-Cabrero highway and the $296 million La Serena-Vallenar link.

The plans call for 14 concessions worth a total of US$3.74 billion to be awarded by January 2018.     The Chilean authorities have had to re-launch the tender process for the 187km La Serena – Vallenar highway project. A consortium, Azvi-Copasa, originally won the tender for the project in 2010 but struggled to find the necessary financing. As a result, Chile's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has been forced to restart the tendering process and open the project for bidding once more.
