PolyBitumens takes delivery of first mobile storage tank

PolyBitumens, a polymer-modified bitumen and emulsion facility in Thurrock, England, has taken delivery of the first road legal mobile storage tank in the UK. Rolling along: a made-to-order mobile storage tank for UK-based PolyBitumens

PolyBitumens, a polymer-modified bitumen and emulsion facility in Thurrock, England, has taken delivery of the first road legal mobile storage tank in the UK.

The made-to-specification road-going tank enables the storage of bitumen emulsion at remote sites around the country. The 55,000-litre unit is part of an almost US$940,000 investment by PolyBitumens – a 3281 Eurovia UK company – to expand its fleet during the next two years.

The tank has been designed specifically to a reduced width of 2.55m so that it can be legally driven on the UK road network with no requirements for a restricted movement order. The first purpose built mobile storage tank is the first in the UK that has been successfully IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) approved, according to PolyBitumens.

Another two tanks will be delivered this summer with more to arrive during the year. They will support the PolyBitumens’ Specialist Treatments operations and other clients by delivering high volume outputs throughout the country.

They are fitted with technology to the volume of material delivered to clients and Eurovia projects. This can be monitored remotely from the PolyBitumens plant to facilitate efficient delivery schedules, explained Paul Goosey, Eurovia production managing director.

Eurovia opened the nearly $9 million plant last year, saying it was the company’s largest  single capital expenditure project in the UK.

Also last year, Eurovia UK’s Surfacing division purchased the group’s first state-of-the-art tracked midi paver. The company said that the 1194 Vögele Super 1300-3i paver achieves a high laydown rate and offers pave widths from 0.75-5m. It can be used for combined footpaths and cycle paths, farm track applications or minor roadways.  The paver is connected to 2395 Wirtgen’s WITOS FleetView platform for monitoring the machine’s operational data as well as tracking its location and operational history.
