A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.
In Chile the authorities are working on plans to improve transport links between capital Santiago and the nearby port of Valparaiso. The Chilean Ministry of Public Works intends to widen the existing Route 68, the main road connecting the Metropolitan and Valparaiso regions. The project will increase the road's capacity by at least 30%. Spanish contractor Abertis will work on the expansion, which includes includes the construction of a third tunnel in Lo Prado. Spanish contractor Sacyr Concesiones will carry out construction of Colombia’s new Cucuta-Pamplona road connection in a deal worth US$485.5 million. This particular road project is of key national importance as it will improve Colombia’s connections with neighbouring Venezuela and Ecuador. The project forms of Colombia’s key 4G road development programme and the package of works was awarded by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI).
