A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.

Road management firm Ruta del Sol intends to invest US$846 million in Colombia’s Ruta del Sol highway during 2012. The highway connects Colombia’s Central region with the Atlantic coast. Ruta de Sol has already invested $282 million in maintenance works for the 600km or so of existing highway and intends to extend the highway by a further 100km. French engineering firm Egis has expanded further into the Brazilian infrastructure market with the purchase of highways contractor Lenc for an undisclosed sum.
A statement from Egis said the acquisition is part of a strategy to expand aggressively in Brazil that it has been focusing on since 2011.
