A new bridge in Ecuador will improve transport connections in the country. The opening of this new structure is of note as it is the longest bridge in Ecuador. The Bahia de Caraquez-San Vicente road bridge cost some US$102 million to construct.
A consortium of Colombian construction companies, Concesionaria Desarrollo Vial al Mar (Devimar), is to build the new in Autopista al Mar 1 highway. This 176km link is expected to cost US$790.5 million to build, connecting Medellin with Santa Fe de Antioquia. The new highway will cut journey times on the route by 20-30 minutes, boosting transport for the region. Brazil’s Transport Ministry is putting the concession contract to maintain the Rio-Niterói bridge in Rio de Janeiro out to tender. The present 20-year maintenance contract for the bridge held by Ponte will run out in May 31st 2015, reports Business News Americas. In Ecuador plans are being drawn up for a new bridge connecting Duran with the port city of Guayaquil. The bridge will span the Guayas River and is expected to cost US$800 million to build. The project had been proposed by the former administration but stalled and has now been revived by the current administration. The link would provide a new connection for Highway 40, cutting journey times considerably. The planned location for the new bridge has not so far been clarified.
