Philippines expressway stretch opening

A key stretch of a new expressway in the Philippines is opening shortly.

A stretch of the new expressway connecting Tarlac with La Union via Pangasinan will open shortly in the Philippines. The 11km stretch of the route should open on 15th July.

In all, the expressway connecting Tarlac with La Union will run for just over 88km. Opening this new route will reduce journey times considerably. At present driving between the two takes three hours. Once the expressway opens, the journey time will be just one hour.

    Work is due to commence in 2017 on the new Cavite-Laguna Expressway in the Philippines. This 47km route will run along the coast to the south of capital Manila, with its north eastern end lying close to the city’s international airport. The route connects Cavitex in Cavite's Kawit with the SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange in Laguna's Biñan. The project will improve connections to the airport as well as from Manila to the southern end of Luzon.

  • Colombia tunnel construction contract commencing

    Driving work has commenced for Colombia’s Toro Tunnel project. The tunnel will measure 9.8km long and is located in Colombia’s Antioquia Department, with the completion expected in 2022. The project is costing US$650.5 million and the link is intended to provide a link between the Autopista al Mar 1 and Autopista al Mar 2 highways. When complete the tunnel will also cut the travel time between Medellin and Uraba to four hours.

  • Approval due in August 2013 for US$400mn Lima viaduct

    In Peru, the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima is expected to approve in August 2013 a US$400 million underground viaduct project, including a 10km double-carriage way road and a 1.5km tunnel under the Cerro Centinela. The private initiative submitted by Spanish construction firm OHL will connect the La Molina and Miraflores districts.
