Iteris launches iPerform to measure and manage transportation networks

Iteris has introduced the iPerform information management solution that utilises all available data resources to provide effective performance analysis and prediction. 253 Iteris has introduced the iPerform information management solution that utilises all available data resources to provide effective performance analysis and prediction. The software can fuse information from a full spectrum of sources including roadway sensors as well as weather and other traffic related data. Moreover, Iteris says it provides this valuable information for not only freeways, but for arterials and multi-modal forms of transportation as well.

"With the increased emphasis on accountability in transportation infrastructure expenditures, the 2364 US Department of Transportation as well as state DOT's are expected to use performance measures as a funding gate for agencies," said Iteris president and CEO, Abbas Mohaddes. "In light of the legislation mandating real-time interstate traffic programs by 2013 and metro area routes by 2016, we believe iPerform offers a powerful solution to improve an agency's oversight and transportation network capabilities."

Traffic managers can not only assess trends and better understand the costs associated with operating their transportation network, but iPerform can allow them to identify poorly performing roadway segments and focus on the areas where the most significant improvements can be achieved. The reporting system built into iPerform enables the comparison of alternative actions and can quantify the results of both near-term and long-term investment strategies.

"Over the past decade, the amount of measurement data available for traffic management has exploded," added Mohaddes. "iPerform is the first solution to effectively use that data to provide operational managers the information they require to meet the demanding challenges they face on a daily basis.”

The market and technology for weigh-in-motion systems continues to evolve – Mike Woof writes. for both mature and developing highway infrastructure networks, traffic densities play an important role in determining road wear and life. Monitoring traffic volumes and individual vehicle weight is crucial for ensuring roads can cope in the long term and that maintenance can be planned, while the problem of overloading can be eliminated.

There is a global need for more intelligent traffic management and enhanced road safety, fuelled by data collection and the useful interpretation of that data into real-time information that provides for effective action by traffic engineers. The prevailing transportation paradigm, one-person-one-vehicle, is forcing the multimodal traffic infrastructure to its limits. With continuous congestion, longer commute times, and increased accidents, agencies are tasked with finding solutions without escalating thei

Inrix has introduced what it claims is the industry's first cloud-based data analytics services designed to improve how transportation agencies monitor, manage and measure the performance of their road networks. "Now more than ever, government agencies worldwide are being required to stretch and justify every dollar invested in transportation - being asked to do more with less," said Rick Schuman, Inrix VP of public sector.
