Indonesia is planning a massive development of its infrastructure, with transport being a key priority. The 2020 budget at $27.64 billion is 4.9% greater than the $26.37 billion set for 2019. The largest portion of the budget will be used for road building, with plans to expand the major road network by 837km, a significant jump from the 406km of roads for 2019. The Indonesian Government has plans to build key new roads connecting West Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Sarawak (Malaysia), East Kalimantan (Indonesia) and Sabah (Malaysia), as well as roads in the south Java coast.
Work is starting on an upgrade for a 100km stretch of road in Zambia. The route connects Nchelenge and Chiengi districts and will benefit from a new asphalt surface. The project is costing US$77 million and is being carried out by the contractor Sinohydro Zambia. Delays to the work have been caused by heavy rains however. The Zambian Government has paid an initial $3.8 million for the work to be carried out and the project is expected to take two years to complete.
