China Merchants Holdings (International) Company and China Merchants Hua Jian Highway Investment Company have Sri Lankan government approval to build and operate an expressway from the capital, Colombo, to the central part of the country. With the recently won approval, both companies would plan, design, finance, build and operate the first section of the US$4.5 billion Northern Expressway system.
The $1.5 billion first section of the expressway will be built in four stages, namely from Ambepussa to Kandy
Work on an extension to the express lanes on the I-95 Interstate highway in the US will be carried by Fluor Enterprises and the Transurban Group. The two companies have a 76 year concession package to operate and maintain the toll road infrastructure for the section of I-95 under a joint venture arrangement, 95 Express, The 147km stretch of express lanes on the I-95 highway will be owned by The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) however.
Plans are being drawn up in Indonesia for a new road tunnel project, with construction planned to commence in 2021. The tunnel will feature parallel tubes and is expected to cost US$231 million to construct. It will measure 7km, making it one of the longest road tunnels in Indonesia. The tunnel will form part of the 96km Bengkulu-Lubuk Linggau tolled highway, which is being built in three main sections. The three sections of the tolled route are from Lubuk Linggau to Kepahiang, from Taba Penanjung to Bengku
