A feasibility study worth US$199 million will be carried out for the planned Sunda Straits Bridge in Indonesia. The bridge itself is expected to cost close to $20 billion to construct. It will be of major economic importance for Indonesia by providing a direct road link between the islands of Sumatra and Java. Tanzania’s Ministry of Works has opened a key road project to bidding for expressions of interest. The 100km route from capital Dar es Salaam to Chalinze is to be upgraded to a tolled expressway. The upgraded road will feature three lanes in either direction and the project includes the construction of a number of overpasses and intersections along the route, as well as cuttings and toll plazas. The authorities in Indonesia are planning six toll road projects to link with capital Jakarta. These have a total value of US$4.52 billion and include the 18km Semanan-Sunter toll road, a 10km road linking Kampung Melayu and Kemayoran, the 9.6km Pasar Minggu-Casablanca road and the Ulujami-Tanah Abang road.
