945 STRABAG will build a section of the European Route E16 in Norway. This route connects capital Oslo with the Norway’s second largest city, Bergen and will be the first construction project being carried out in the country with STRABAG as sole contractor.

The Øye–Eidsbru section is located about midway between Oslo and Bergen. The work comprises the new construction of 4.5km of main road and 2.1km of side roads. It includes a 1.97km long tunnel that will be built using conventional drilling and blasting methods. This section of the E16 lies in a mountainous area known as Filefjell, which has a peak elevation of 1,920m. The road will pass its highest point at 1,013m above sea level. Temperatures in the area can reach -25°C in the winter and massive snowfall is a common occurrence. The climate and location will present challenges to STRABAG although the firm says it is confident that it can carry out the work successfully.
