Design work for the new bridge will be carried out in 2020, with the construction work expected to commence in 2021 and due for completion in 2025. The aim of the project is to improve transport connections  in the region and help revitalise the area’s economy.

Meanwhile the Volkhov River and Svir River crossings will be built by EuroTransStroy (ETS). The Volkhov River bridge contract is worth US$56.7 million while the Svir River bridge deal is worth $54.04 million.
