Work is now commencing on widening a stretch of the A3 Autobahn where it passes through the Bavarian city of Regensburg. The 15km section of the A3 will be widened from its present two lanes to three lanes. This work is needed as the section of the A3 becomes highly congested at peak periods, leading to long traffic delays. The A3 carries a high percentage of truck traffic along this stretch and in either direction. The project is expected to take until 2024 to complete.
