The Peruvian government has announced that the US$182 million construction of a road to link Tacna (Peru) with La Paz (Bolivia), via Collpa, will begin in 2015. This new road will benefit more than 268,000 people living in the south of Peru.
China will loan Bolivia around US$7.5 billion for all types of infrastructure projects, according to the Bolivian vice-president Alvaro Garcia Linera.
The loan will arrive in tranches with different interest rates, from a low of less than 1% and up to 4%. It will likely increase the country's foreign debt to GDP ratio from 17% to 35%.
Road projects will include a double-lane between Bombeo and Villa Tunari; road works between Santa Cruz and Cochabamba; and new motorways between Charazani and Porvenir,
Argentina is receiving a loans from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) worth US$300 million for road improvements. The loan will be used to widen and improve roads across the country and is for 25 years with a grace period of 4.5 years. The Argentina Government will provide a further $200 million for road development projects. Planned projects include a new 120km dual carriageway as well as work to a 35.4km section of National Route 19 in Cordoba Province.
Meanwhile around half of Salta Province
The Bolivian Government will spend some US$123 million during 2015 on a series of highway projects. The work will be carried out in the country’s eastern lowland Tarija Department, reports Business News Americas. Work commenced in 2014 on three highways in Tarija Department. These are the 66km Entre Ríos-Palos Blancos route, which is costing $83.4 million; the 45km Villamontes-Palo Marcado route costing $39 million; the 30km Río Isiri-La Central $32 million.
