The Peruvian government has announced that the US$182 million construction of a road to link Tacna (Peru) with La Paz (Bolivia), via Collpa, will begin in 2015. This new road will benefit more than 268,000 people living in the south of Peru.
Plans are in hand to carry out upgrades to a key stretch of highway in Peru. Work on the VII stretch of the Ayacucho-Abancay road will be carried out by the Kishuara III consortium. The contract is worth US$139 million. This consortium is headed by Spanish contractor firm, OHL, which has a 43% stake in the business. Its partners are Peruvian firm, Constructora TP, and Constructora Malaga Hnos.

At the beginning of 2015, work began on the construction and paving for the Tupiza - Atocha - Uyuni highway project. The route is located in Bolivia’s Potosí department: it is 189m in length and forms part of the Southwest Basic Road Network (RVF) of Bolivia.
Fonplata, a multilateral fund set up by Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, has unveiled a project to integrate roads in south-west Paraguay.
The work to six section in total will include construction of new roads as well as upgrading and repairs to others. The cost is estimated to be around US$186 million, according to a report in the Paraguayan newspaper La Nacion.

The sixth Ibero-American Road Safety Congress was held in Spain’s capital Madrid recently, aiming to boost road safety in a range of countries. In all 300 experts from 15 countries attended the event, analysing solutions to achieve more sustainable roads and streets. Attendees included Peru’s minister of the interior, the Spanish minister of Public Works, the Director of the World Bank for Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru.
