One of Morocco’s most dangerous roads could get tunnels in a bid to improve its safety. A feasibility study on the potential installation of tunnels on the RN9 mountain-passing route will begin in December 2014.
A new technique for assessing the impacts of tunnels on nearby buildings and structures will allow a more realistic establishment of risk and could therefore reduce project insurance premiums
The European Commission will provide €25 million for renovation of the 7.8k-long Karawanks Tunnel, a motorway link between Austria and Slovenia. The Karawanks is a 120km-long mountain range between Slovenia to the south and Austria to the north. Around €6.5 million will go towards planning and €18 million will be set aside for reconstruction.
