Mexico’s strong road investment programme for 2014

The Mexican Government says it has managed to boost road investment in 2014, compared with 2013. The Mexican Government says it has managed to boost road investment in 2014, compared with 2013. According to the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT), investment in road projects between January and October 2014 hit US$5.39 billion, some $56 million more than for the whole of 2013. Mexico’s National Infrastructure Project (PNI) includes 266 government pledges, of which the SCT is responsible for 105. By the end of 2014, there will be four new motorways n Mexico costing over MXN 4bn (the Mazatlan and Oriente de Chihuahua bypasses, the Salamanca-Irapuato stretch of the Salamanca-Leon road, and the Colima-Tonala stretch of the Guadalajara-Colima road). In addition some 90 roads and rural paths are being built or modernised across Mexico.

    A budget of US$5 billion has been set for road construction, maintenance and modernisation projects in Mexico during 2014.     The Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) has confirmed that a total of 1,474 road infrastructure contracts were granted in the first half of 2015. This work is costing in the region of US$1.02 billion. A total of 74% of these contracts were awarded to Mexican companies, whilst 26% corresponded to foreign firms. SCT informed that 31 projects were concluded so far in 2015 and added that 12 additional initiatives were expected to be completed by the end of the year.
