Major highway project awarded in Mexico

Mexican construction firm Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en America Latina (Ideal) has won a major US$623.4 million contract to construct the Macrolibramiento de Guadalajara link in the country. This link is for a large-scale ring road in Mexico’s Guadalajara metropolitan zone.

    A total of US$1.01 billion (MXN 12.91bn) will be allocated from Mexico’s 2013 federal budget for 783 road work projects across 31 states. Chiapas will receive the largest amount at $73.64 million (MXN 940mn) for 64 projects-; followed by Guerrero’s $69.8 million (MXN 891mn) - and Hidalgo $63.92 million (MXN 816mn).     Mexico’s transport and communications ministry (SCT) looks set to open tenders for 258 highway projects in 2014. Tenders for 13 projects covering work to repair, upgrade and widen over 2,000km of roads have already been revealed. Tenders being opened will also include building bridges and bypasses around congested urban areas.
