Key contractors win Russian highway rebuild

In Russia the construction firms Hanty-Mansiyskdorstroy and Volgomost are working on contracts to rebuild the important M5 highway. This route lies motorway in the Republic of Bashkortostan (Volga) and is managed by Samara-Ufa-Chelyabinsk. Hanty-Mansiyskdorstroy’s contract is to rebuild a 15km stretch of the highway and is worth US$128.16 million, with the work due for completion by October 2016. This funding stream is being set in place due to framework changes being made by CIPE, the Italian interdepartmental committee for economic planning. This will now pave the way for banks to fund the project. Construction works are already underway on a 15km section of the highway.

    New Zealand’s Waterview tunnel project in Auckland will provide a key link in, boosting capacity and safety while reducing congestion and journey times. A consortium will handle the work for the Waterview Connection road, in a deal worth $1.15 billion (NZ$1.4 billion). The Well Connected consortium includes local company Fletcher Construction as well as other New Zealand and overseas firms. The deal is of note as it will be New Zealand’s single largest highway project and work is due to commence in November
