Israel's new highway tunnels close to completion

The complex Carmel tunnel project in Israel is close to completion and due to open to traffic at the end of this year. The project features twin tunnels that run parallel to each other for 6km, as well as an interchange with seven overpasses. The tunnels will be the longest underground highway sections in the country once they are opened to traffic.

    A new completion date has been set for the La Linea Tunnel project in Colombia. The work should now be finished in late 2020, although the project was originally intended to be ready by late 2016.     Approval has been given for the project to build a new parallel link for the Gotthard Tunnel in Switzerland. The second road tunnel has been given the go ahead after 57% of Swiss subjects who voted in a referendum backed the plans. Construction of the new tunnel will start in 2020 and will end in 2027.     Swiss firm Implenia has won the contract to construct the first section of Stockholm’s new bypass in a deal worth €216.7 million. The Förbifart Stockholm road project was awarded by the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket. Implenia won the package of works following its acquisition of Bilfinger Construction and will commence work during October 2015. The section Implenia will work on is called the FSE 403 stretch and the work includes building a 7.2km long, twin tube tunnel as well as slip roads.
