Indonesia’s road network continues to grow

Indonesia’s road network is growing at a healthy pace, though further expansion is required to meet demand. At the end of 2013, the total length of Indonesia’s national road network was 38,750km. This marks a significant increase from the total of 34,628km recorded in 2004. Meanwhile the total length of the country’s road network has increased to from 373,523km in 2004, to 508,968km in 2013. Indonesia’s road network is growing at a healthy pace, though further expansion is required to meet demand. At the end of 2013, the total length of Indonesia’s national road network was 38,750km. This marks a significant increase from the total of 34,628km recorded in 2004. Meanwhile the total length of the country’s road network has increased to from 373,523km in 2004, to 508,968km in 2013. Total toll road length in Indonesia has increased from 595km in 2004 to 784 km in 2013. A further 329km of toll roads will be added to the network by the end of 2014. Some 258 km of toll roads are under development including the Cinere-Jagorawi; Bogor Ring Road; Surabaya-Mojokerto; Kanci-Pejagan; Semarang-Solo; and Bali Mandara toll roads.

    Indonesia’s proposed US$914.8 million (IDR 8.97tn) 177km Solo-Mantingan-Kertosono toll road is to be developed under the public private partnership (PPP) scheme with Theis Contractors Indonesia, according to Rido Matari Ichwan, head of planning and public works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project will be receiving loans from China amounting to $300 million. Construction is expected to start by end of 2013.

  • Indonesia’s toll road network is expanding

    Indonesia continues to expand its toll road network, with major routes being built and opening to traffic. The toll road firm Jasa Marga will expand its network from 787km to 1,000km by the end of 2018. Four key sections of toll road will be complete at the end of 2018, linking Gempol and Pasuruan, Salatiga and Kartasura, Wilangan and Kertosono and Batang with Semarang.

    Public private partnerships (PPP) are being set up by the Indonesian Government to construct three toll road projects valued at US$783.3 million (IDR 9.40tn). Tender for the projects will be launched in 2014, with construction due to begin the following year.
