Gateway WA Alliance agree costs for Perth Airport road project

Gateway WA Alliance consortium, led by Leighton Contractors, has reached agreement with Main Roads WA on the price, scope and construction methodology for the US$896.07 million (AUD1 billion) Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project. Gateway WA Alliance consortium, led by 2685 Leighton Contractors, has reached agreement with 6508 Main Roads WA on the price, scope and construction methodology for the US$896.07 million (AUD1 billion) Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access Project.

The Contract Cost Target agreed with Main Roads WA is valued at $805.56 million (AUD899 million) of which Leighton Contractors has a 68% share.

The Gateway WA Alliance includes Leighton Contractors and partners 6696 Georgiou, 3369 GHD, 1397 AECOM, and BG&E. It was awarded the Perth Airport and Freight Access Project by competitive tender in November 2012.  

The largest infrastructure project ever undertaken by Main Roads WA, the Gateway WA Perth Airport and Freight Access project comprises road and bridge improvements, local road modifications, facilities and connections for pedestrians and cyclists, noise walls, landscaping, innovative urban design and the use of intelligent transport system technology.

It involves much-needed improvements around Perth Airport as well as the nearby Kewdale and Forrestfield industrial estates, including extra lanes on Tonkin Highway, new interchanges and the upgrade of Leach Highway to an expressway.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
