Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
Repairs and improvement works will now go ahead on Nicaragua’s Pista Juan Pablo II highway in capital Managua. The project is expected to cost close to US$256 million to carry out. A portion of the funding required will come in the shape of a loan worth $105.5 million from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Nicaragua’s Ministry of Treasury and Public Credit is aiming to receive the remainder of the funding necessary for the work through a loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB)
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has granted a US$198million (€150million) sovereign-guaranteed loan for the construction of part of the new Banja Luka-Doboj motorway in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The loan-targeted motorway section is the main east-west link in Republika Srpska, one of the country’s entities. The EBRD said it will also support the preparation of the first public-private partnership (PPP) project for the main north-south link in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Doboj to Vukosa
The World Bank is offering the Kenyan Government a loan worth nearly US$300 million to fund road projects. The lion’s share of the money will be used to construct a double decker road link in Kenyan capital Nairobi. The 30 year repayment loan will also feature a grace period of 10 years. The Kenyan Government will contribute a small sum to the project and will also be in charge of the tender process.
Colombia's finance minister Mauricio Cardenas said the country will gain access to a loan of US$400 million the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for infrastructure projects.
Around $200 million will finance 4G motorway concessions. The rest will be used on projects that involve CABEI founding members such as Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Guatemala. The announcement was made during the 55th CABEI governors’ assembly in Medellin, Columbia, in April.
