Ecuador roadworks to be funded by US$367mn Chinese loan
The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works in Ecuador (MTOP) has announced that a Chinese loan of US$367 million will fund the restoration of the Catamayo-Gonzanama-Sozoranga-Macara and Celica-Cruzpamba-Y del Muerto roads.
A loan of €178 million will pay for the Surcin-Obrenovac highway project in Serbia. The loan for the work is being provided by China’s Export-Import Bank. The financing deal has been agreed between the Serbian Government and the Chinese bank. When Chinese sources deliver funding for road projects, a usual stipulation of the agreement is that the main contracting work should be carried out by a Chinese firm. Five road projects in India will benefit from funding provided by loans from Japan. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is to provide loans worth a total of US$738.65 million to fund five road projects. These will form part of the North East Connectivity project, which has been planned by the Indian Government. Indonesia’s proposed US$914.8 million (IDR 8.97tn) 177km Solo-Mantingan-Kertosono toll road is to be developed under the public private partnership (PPP) scheme with Theis Contractors Indonesia, according to Rido Matari Ichwan, head of planning and public works at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project will be receiving loans from China amounting to $300 million. Construction is expected to start by end of 2013.
