Plans are being drawn up in Colombia for a number of new tertiary roads in Valle del Cauca Department. A new highway will be built in Valle del Cauca department, while a new road will improve connections between Mulalo and Loboguerrero.
The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has plans to expand the country’s road network. In all 42 road construction projects will be completed during the present financial year while a further 45 new road projects will be started. The new roads will extend for a total of 20,700km. Key roads being built will connect Woliso and Ambo, Goro and Lebu and Awash and Debreberhan via Dulecha and Ankober. The programme of works is expected to cost US$1.53 billion.
Construction work on Algeria’s planned Hauts-plateaux highway is set to commence at the end of June 2013. The highway will run 1,300km and connect Tébessa with Naâma, with the project being split into three sections. The East stretch will be 220km long while the West section will be 305km long and in the middle will be the 495km Central section. The new highway is expected to provide an important trade route and help improve transport between Algeria and its neighbours and this forms part of Algeria’s 2030
The contract award for Columbia’s 9.75km Toyo Tunnel project will be made on September 28, according to Columbian media.
The tunnel, costing almost US$760, will be part of a new 39km road between Santa Fe de Antioquia and Canasgordas.
World Highways reported in January that the central government will contribute $216 million towards the project, the regional government of Antioquia department will contribute $337 million and the Medellin city government will pitch in with $212 million.

Three key highway upgrade projects are planned in Panama. Improvement work on the Divisa-Las Tablas road is being split into two sections while the third is for upgrades to the David-Boquete road and the total value of these three contracts has been estimated at US$283 million.
