The Colombian Government is keen to retart work on the important La Linea Tunnel link. The project has been delayed for a number of reasons and on a number of occasions since it was first envisaged. Engineering firm Valores y Contratos (Valorcon) has now been suggested as a likely candidate to become a strategic partner to join the Union Temporal Segundo Centenario joint venture that will carry out the La Linea tunnel scheme. Valorcon would provide sufficient cash flow US$68 million, either directly or through loans, to allow the work to be completed in 14 months. The tunnel would help boost safety and capacity, as well as being better able to cope with the heavy truck traffic on the route.

Around 10,000 vehicles a day are using the new road, which is broadly in line with the predictions made by highways engineers when building a case to construct a new route connecting the A595 with the M6 around the western flank of the city.
