Bolivia road project delay as tenders behind schedule

Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. The work for the Caracollo-Confital stretch was to have been completed by January 2018 but will now be finished by September 2018. This stretch was delayed by poor weather as well as material

Bolivia’s US$554 million Occidente road project is running behind schedule and is now expected to be complete in 2020. Construction of one section, from Caracollo-Confital, is underway with close to 60% of the work having been complete. However two of the three sections of the route have not yet been put to tender. The work for the Caracollo-Confital stretch was to have been completed by January 2018 but will now be finished by September 2018. This stretch was delayed by poor weather as well as material shortages. A decision for the stretch from Confital-Bombeo is still pending however as the contractor has yet to be selected. The necessary studies for the stretch from Bombeo-Parotani have yet to be completed.

    Bolivia has a major programme of highway expansion and improvements underway at present in a plan designed to improve the country’s transport links. The programme includes 16 double-lane highways being built, costing some US$1.85 billion in all. The work is being managed by the state-run road administration company ABC.     The tender process for Colombia’s Buga-Buenaventura fourth generation (4G) toll road project is being planned. The tender for the 114.1km dual carriageway is being handled in two separate stretches however. One of the road stretches will be for a 55.4km section from Buga to Loboguerrero, which is expected to cost US$359.45 million.     Construction work on the road connecting the Bolivian towns of Riberalta and Rurrenabaque has been halted. The project to upgrade Bolivia’s Route 8 is being carried out by a Chinese contractor. Work started on the project in 2014 and is supposed to be complete in 2020 but is said to be significantly behind schedule, with only 11% of the planned work having been carried out.
