Big Brunei bridge being built

Plans are in hand in Brunei for a new bridge that will connect Brunei-Muara with Temburong. This project will require the construction of a 30km bridge and will be the largest of the kind in the country. Temburong is at present separated from the rest of Brunei as it is encircled by Malaysia and the project will provide an important new connection. The Brunei Ministry of Development is handling the project.

    Malaysia-based UEM Group has been invited to bid for the contract to build the 22km long Temburong bridge in Brunei, according to company chairman, Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.     Brunei has awarded Chinese infrastructure construction company China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) the US$204 million Pulau Muara Besar Bridge, Road and Utilities project through an open tender.     Four Chinese contractors are involved in the bidding process for work on Brunei’s Temburong Bridge project. This is the second phase for the bridge project, as a local contractor, Swee, and a South Korean company, Daelim Industrial, won the tender process for the first phase of the work.
