6202 Fugro is providing the consultancy services for the Zuidasdok project in Amsterdam. The firm will work with the ZuidPlus partners, which are 6343 Fluor, 1271 Heijmans and 981 HOCHTIEF. The Zuidasdok project is of major importance as it is one of the largest infrastructure developments in the Netherlands. The project includes developing the A10 South highway, which comprises widening the route and contructing a cut and cover tunnel for a portion of it.

The A10 South is one of the busiest highways in The Netherlands and suffers heavy congestion at peak periods, particularly at junctions S108 and S109 often during rush hour. The new proposed highway will be extended to eight lanes for through traffic and four lanes for local traffic. Improvements will also extend to the ‘De Nieuwe Meer’ and ‘Amstel’ junctions and include the construction of a new Amsterdam South railway station.

The Zuidasdok project is essential for accessibility to the Zuidas business district. Placing a stretch of the highway in a tunnel will provide space for a new public area and the new Amsterdam South railway station, turning it into a public transport hub. Due to the interconnected nature of the urban road and rail network, the Zuidasdok is a joint project of the Municipality of Amsterdam, the Dutch Rail Infrastructure Manager (ProRail) and Directorate-General of Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat).

As a strategic partner to the ZuidPlus partners, Fugro will provide monitoring expertise, geotechnical risk management consulting services, soil investigations and data acquisition throughout the re-baseline phase and ultimate realisation of the project. Fugro and ZuidPlus will use a sophisticated monitoring approach to manage geotechnical risk.

Planning and construction will commence in 2019 and the project is expected to be completed around 2028.
