VIDEO – California freeway bridge demolition in progress

A bridge demolition job is underway in California at present. The Carmenita Road Bridge, which crosses the Santa Ana Freeway, is being removed in stages. The work is being carried out at night when the I-5 route is closed to traffic, so as to minimise the impact for daytime peak traffic flow. The work is being carried out by a specialist contractor on behalf of 5246 Caltrans in the Santa Fe Springs area. The three week job is being closed overnight seven days a week between Rosecrans and Valley View avenues. The work forms part of the Carmenita Road Interchange project. The new Carmenita Bridge has been built and features four traffic lanes in either direction, compared with two lanes for the old bridge now being demolished.

  • Colombia tunnel construction contract commencing

    Driving work has commenced for Colombia’s Toro Tunnel project. The tunnel will measure 9.8km long and is located in Colombia’s Antioquia Department, with the completion expected in 2022. The project is costing US$650.5 million and the link is intended to provide a link between the Autopista al Mar 1 and Autopista al Mar 2 highways.     Work is underway in the US state of Kansas on a demolition project intended to improve key highway connections. The Interstate 35 was closed in both northbound and southbound directions at the weekend to allow demolition work. Meanwhile lanes on 1-435 were also closed for the demolition work. The common pier for the I-35 and I-435 routes was removed using hydraulic excavators fitted with hydraulic worktools.
