A budget of US$1.2 billion will help pay for road development in Paraguay’s Chaco Region. Two of the most important road projects for the Chaco Region are the Transchaco road and the bi-oceanic highway. These projects will cost $560 million and $640 million respectively.
Melbourne road development needed to unlock congestion

Melbourne’s growing congestion problem could be reduced significantly if a number of major road projects are initiated. A budget of US$1.67 billion (A$2.2 billion) will be needed for the upgrade works to 13 of the city’s most important road sections. These roads are located in the south-east of the city as well as in the north.
Concern at growing number of US hit and run crashes

There has been a worrying increase in hit-and-run crashes in the US between 2009 and 2016. A report from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows that fatalities hit-and-run crashes increased by 60% between 2009 and 2016, reaching 2,049. Around 65% of hit-and-run crashes involve vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Bangladesh bridge building budget insufficient?

The budget for Bangladesh’s Padma Bridge project may have to be increased. A further US$168.7 million has been requested for the project by the Ministry of Road Transport & Bridges. This additional funding would help pay for additional land on which dredged materials could be tipped. However, Bangladesh’s Implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation Division is opposing the call for extra funds.

Colombia bridge collapse cause indentified

The recent collapse of the Chirajara Bridge in Colombia has been attributed to design flaws. The Colombian Government has said that it will not pay for rebuilding the structure. Instead, the Colombian Government expects road company Coviandes and its insurance cover to pay for the rebuilding work. The remains of the collapsed structure have yet to be demolished completely. A number of contractors have expressed an interest in building the new bridge, with the work expected to take around 18-24 months to car
Kato Imer’s 30V4 and 35V4 mini excavators now made in Italy

Kato Imer has shifted production of some mini excavators from its Japanese factory in Yokohama to its Italian facility in the Siena region. The 39,000m² facility in San Gimignano, employing 71 people, now makes machines with operating weights of 3tonnes and 3.5tonnes - the 30V4 and 35V4. “This step strengthens Imer Group – the Italian partner of Kato Works within the Kato Imer joint venture,” the company said.
Sophisticated drill analysis tool from Epiroc

A new measure while drilling (MWD) tool is being offered by Epiroc that makes it easier to analyse drill conditions. Called Exploration Manager, this system optimises MWD data retrieval. The firm now offers upgraded software on units such as its Diamec Smart underground core drilling rig. The package can collate data recorded automatically during the drill cycle and also simplifies the workflow by letting the operator log what activity state the drill rig is in, directly on the control panel.

Minnich Manufacturing has developed its M-Box vibration control solution, an innovative control speed high-cycle power converter. This unit enables high-cycle vibrator operators to control the speed/vibrations per minute (VPM) of up to two vibrators. According to the firm, the M-Box minimises time and cost associated with patching structural concrete surface blemishes caused by excessive vibrator speeds.
