Traffic Group acquires specialist MAV Systems

Traffic Group - formerly AGD – has acquired MAV Systems, a global supplier of ANPR cameras. AGD Systems, one company within Traffic Group, a privately owned group of traffic-focused companies, is already working with MAV for the supply of radar products to work alongside MAV’s IQ range of intelligent ANPR cameras. The two companies are currently collaborating on a number of other synergistic solutions, according to a statement from Traffic Group.

Existing traffic monitoring units (TMU) and Traffic Appraisal Modelling and Economics (TAME) kits can now be replaced with new Clearview Intelligence TMU2 traffic monitoring units which provide improved system and data availability.

Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Tyne and Wear councils in northern England to upgrade their urban traffic management and control (UTMC) system. The existing Tyne and Wear UTMC system, which Mott MacDonald has been providing since 2010, monitors the busiest and most important parts of the region’s road transport network. This accounts for over 750,000 vehicle movements per day and more than 11,000 incidents, collisions and events annually.
Aecom wins advisory role on Belfast’s DBFO1 network

Aecom is to deliver technical advice for design work and maintenance supervision for 60km of highway surrounding Belfast, Northern Ireland. Aecom was chosen by Highway Management (City) which since 2006 has been working on a 30-year design, build, finance and operation contract for the highways, known as DBFO1 network. DBFO1 covers 60km of the highways surrounding Belfast, including the M1, M2, M3, M5, M22, A8(M) and A12 corridors.

Ver-Mac has launched the WZMC-1000, a fully-automated cloud-based work zone camera system. It comes with an integrated GPS, as well as integrated wifi, a proximity sensor to start-stop recording and voice feedback. The Canadian company, based in Quebec City, says that the easy-to-use low-cost high-definition system allows contractors and agencies a tool to document their projects with very minimal management. It provides high-quality videos along with automatic video transfer and cloud-based storage.

Two SafeZone average speed schemes installed by Siemens in Brighton and Hastings, UK, are recording almost 100% speed compliance. Foreign financing looks likely for much of Colombia’s 4G road programme. Colombia's national infrastructure agency, ANI, has said that there are 13 funding sources from outside of the country that are keen to provide financing for the 4G road development plan. Those showing an interest include pension funds and capital funds. Chinese and Middle Eastern financing for Colombian road development is also a possibility.
