Dana is opening a new 12,000m2 technical centre at Wuxi in China’s Jiangsu Province. The Dana China Technical Center will provide advanced product and applications engineering for original-equipment manufacturers for the off-highway equipment and vehicle markets in China and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Having a long tradition of CG rollers, without central articulation, but with steering on drums, Atlas Copco’s Road Construction Equipment division now launches the Dynapac CG2300 asphalt roller. The roller is 3.95m long and 3m high with an inner turning radius of 3.1m. This means transportation advantages as well as ease of working in restricted areas.

German engine manufacturing giant Deutz saw the worth of its new orders fall 16.4% in 2012 to €1.237.1 billion, compared to 2011 new orders worth €1.479.3 billion. The Cologne-based firm sold almost 179,000 engines in 2012 - 22.5% fewer than in the previous year. The Deutz Group's revenue decreased by 15.5% to €1.291.9 billion in 2012. The World Bank and the Indian state of Kerala's Department of Economic Affairs have signed a loan agreement worth US$215.1 million (INR 11.66bn) to finance the second phase of the Kerala State Transport Project (KSTP). In its 2013/2014 budget, Kerala allocated $51.65 million (INR 2.8bn) for the implementation of the second phase of KSTP. In the second phase, about $443.3 million (INR 24.03bn) will be spent to develop 367km of state highways spread over eight corridors built to international standards.

Nissan says it sees enormous potential for electric vehicles in Mexico, with its Leaf electric car to be launched commercially during the third quarter of 2013. However, many experts reportedly doubt that it will sell 1,000 units in the country by 2018. The high price of electric vehicles is seen as a potential barrier to their growth in this market. The domestic market for vehicles in Mexico is expected to grow by between 5% and 6% in the next few years, or by about 60,000.

Polish spending on modernisation and new road projects will reach around €4.33 billion (PLN 18bn) in 2013. While the new eastern span of northern California’s Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland will open to traffic this September, the task of taking down the old eastern bridge span roadway is likely to take years.
