Zoomlion offers customers financial packages to buy equipment

Dutch transport industry tipped for 2014 volume increase, according to Panteia NEA

The Dutch transport industry is expected to record a 1% trade volume increase in 2014 after a tipped 0.3% decline in 2013, according to internationally renowned transport research and training consultancy Panteia NEA. The decline in 2013 is being caused, claims Panteia NEA, by the disappointing results from the national transport sector, partly due to the difficult construction industry climate.

IAM pollsters support traffic light risk system for driving on prescription drugs

Just half of drivers feel prescription drug labelling is clear enough on medicines, according to the latest poll by road safety charity the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM). Earlier this year, the government announced that a drug-driving bill will be introduced and will include chemicals which can be found in prescription drugs. Almost a third of respondents suggest that a simple traffic-light system would be the best method to inform people of the risks of using prescription drugs when driving.

The US$2.16 billion (MXN28 billion) Durango-Mazatlan highway, considered to be the most complex road project in Mexico, has now opened. Quebec, Canada Premier reveals Nomad electric car project plan

Quebec Premier Pauline Marois has unveiled a US$1.93 billion (CAD2 billion) job creation plan that would include the creation of a new purpose-built electric car. The government is looking to allocate $498.23 million (CAD516 million) out of the total job creation plan budget to the Nomad electric car project, said to be identical in concept to the Bixi bike-sharing program of Montreal.

Costa Rican government targets Chinese loan to build major motorway

A 107km road section between San Jose and Limon in Costa Rica could be transformed into a large four-lane motorway using a loan from China of US$395.7 million. The Costa Rican government could add $89 million to the loan, creating a large project budget of $485 million. President Laura Chinchilla has referred the project to the Costa Rican Congress for approval. Chinese firm CHEC will work on the design of this motorway over the next eight months. The project could be finished in three and a half years.

Underground tunnel could replace London’s Hammersmith flyover

An underground tunnel could replace the Hammersmith flyover in London, England. Plans state the structure could be built from the Hogarth roundabout to Earl's Court, replacing the existing flyover. The landmark bridge is poised for an 18-month patch-up costing €70.87 million (£60 million), but in 15-20 years will need replacing. Plans to in effect bury the heavily used flyover, which handles 90,000 vehicles each day, have been reportedly welcomed by many residents.

All Party Group call for urgent action to end local roads deteriorating

Arteris to invest heavily in Brazilian road projects

Spanish infrastructure group Abertis plans to invest heavily in Brazil through national road and telephone tower projects, after selling its airports-based operations by 2014. The Group is evaluating participation in new highway auctions through its subsidiary, Arteris. Arteris also plans to invest around US$3.22 billion (BRL 7 billion) over the coming years in the nine road projects it currently owns, with $590.13 million (BRL1.3 billion) being invested in 2013.
