Intercomp has expanded its wireless efforts to a key mining scale system, the company said on Tuesday at Conexpo. Intercomp, which has provided weighing solutions for more than 35 years, now offers its fully integrated RFX wireless weighing technology on its MS450 mining scale systems.

Intercomp’s new tension link scales now feature the company’s fully integrated wireless weighing technology. The scales are load monitoring devices used for controlling overhead loads and line tension applications while remaining a cost-effective solution. RFX wireless weighing technology uses no external antennas and ensures dependable, accurate and safer weighing.

Topcon Positioning Group is applying its technology to haul trucks, the company announced on Wednesday. “Our objective has always been to automate a construction site as much as possible,” said Kris Maas, manager of machine control product marketing for Topcon. “We know we can’t, or at least shouldn’t, remotely operate any vehicle. But, we can and should do the next best thing—manage and track the whereabouts and payload of site material. That’s what HT-30 does.”

Driveline technology continues to develop rapidly, with many manufacturers at this year’s Conexpo exhibition showing Tier 4 Final emissions solutions, along with a host of fuel saving transmissions and hydraulic systems, all aiming to reduce operating costs for the customer. However, while there was certainly a hybrid presence at the show, things haven’t perhaps moved forward as fast as many had expected.

Doosan Portable Power was showing no less than four new air compressors on its stand at Conexpo. Two of the four are not powered by diesel; the manufacturer wants to offer its customers more cost effective machines as Tier 4 engines push the price of compressors up. “The price point of the T4 interim and T4 final is getting to the point that contractors are willing to accept alternative power solutions,” said Rus Warner, Doosan’s manager of global air products.
