The two crawled into the JS-2 tank and after poking around in the engine for a period, managed to fire it up. As the diesel started, a thick black cloud of smoke spewed from the exhausts and the engine then settled to a steady tickover.

In the UK a couple who planted flowers in a roadside verge recently faced a charge of criminal damage from the local authorities. The elderly couple started planting the flowers 15 years ago in a bid to dissuade motorists from parking their vehicles illegally on the verge, explaining that this churned up the grass and left it looking unsightly.

A police officer who arrested a suspect in the UK was then forced to ask for a lift to take the man to the local police station. Worse still, the person the policeman asked was the suspect’s mother.

Road safety lobby groups have criticised Britain for pushing down its annual road fatality rate by a further 2% in the past year, the lowest figure since records began in 1926. The Reported Road Casualties Great Britain 2013 (RRCGB) Annual Report, published in September 2014, reveals that 1,713 people were killed in road accidents in the country during 2013, with the number of people seriously injured down by 6% to 21,657 versus 2012.

Hungary’s huge highway programme will see close to €161 million being spent on upgrading some 500km of the country’s network. Hungary’s Ministry of National Development (NFM) plans for the work to commence in the first half of 2015 and completed by the second half of the same year.
