World Bank part funding new Ethiopian road connections

In Ethiopia the construction of two new road links will be carried out by Chinese and Spanish contractors. The Ethiopia Roads Authority (ERA) awarded a contract worth close to US$48 million to Hunan Huanda Road and Bridge Corporation of China to build a 48.3km road in the south of the country. The work will take 29 months to complete. Two Spanish firms meanwhile will work together to carry out a $60.6 million contract in Ethiopia’s Oromia State. This project is for a 63km road connecting Ambo with Walliso.

German engine manufacturer Deutz not to meet fully year earnings

German engine manufacturer Deutz Group warned that a third quarter dip in sales revenue and warranty issues concerning its Compact Engines segment meant the company will not meet its previous forecast for the financial year 2014. New Russian bridge project to span Samara River

Construction work is due to start shortly on the new Frunzensky Bridge in Russia, which will span the Samara River. The project is expected to take 35 months to carry out with the start date having been announced as December 2014. The work will also include building a new junction to connect the approach to the bridge with an existing highway. The project cost has been budgeted at just over US$264 million.
New highway announced in Bolivia

Bolivia’s highway expansion programme continues with plans unveiled for a new project worth some US$400 million. The highway will be located in the vicinity of Cochabamba. Discussions over financing the project have been carried out with the Latin American Development Bank (CAF). A timeline for the project has not so far been announced however. The route of the highway has also to be announced.

New highway connection for Algeria’s road network

Construction work on a 48km section of road connecting Tizi-Ouzou with Algeria’s East-West motorway is due for completion in 2016. The work is costing close to US$960 million, according to the Algerian Public Works Ministry. The Ugandan Government is planning to launch a tender to build a six-lane highway that will stretch 77km and connect Kampala with Jinja. Costing in the region of US$800 - $1 billion, work is due to commence in 2015. The project will be carried out under the PPP model with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) acting as the project's transaction advisor. A demolition contractor in Canada has carried out a successful demolition of an old bridge in Montreal. The bridge crossed the 401 highway and was removed over a weekend. Work was carried out through the night for the structure to be removed within the allotted timeframe.
RDIF chief Dimitriev considers Arab partners for Moscow ring road

Arab partners have been secured as co-investors for construction of the third and fourth phase of Moscow’s Central Ring Road, Russia’s Interfax news agency reported. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), made the announcement earlier this month during a meeting of the State Council's presidium in Novosibirsk, chaired by president Vladimir Putin. Dmitriev did not name the Arab partners but said they “have confirmed their desire” to invest in the third and fourth phases.
