Pakistan plans key highway upgrade

Pakistan’s Government has unveiled plans to upgrade the highway connecting Islamabad with Lahore. The M-2 highway is one of the most important road links in Pakistan and is seen as crucial for its national transportation network. Police in Poland managed to stop a 29 year old male driver after a 30km high speed pursuit. The BMW driver hit speeds as high as 260km/h (162.5mph) in his bid to elude his pursuers. When the traffic officers inspected the vehicle they realised the car’s rear tyres were so worn they had no tread remaining, and immediately impounded this dangerous vehicle along with arresting the offender. The man was from Krosno Odrzanskie in the west of Poland and close to the border with Germany.
UK police carry out spot checks on suspect vehicles

UK officers from Dyfed-Powys Police in Wales recently carried out vehicle checks on a Saturday evening shift. The focus for these checks were on enforcement of drink drive legislation and the officers stopped a number of other vehicles during the evening.

By midnight the officers had conducted more than 85 breath tests. There was only one positive test, provided by a male driver who blew a reading of 85 (the alcohol/breath limit in England and Wales is 35).
Major capacity upgrade for key junction on UK’s M25 route

Balfour Beatty and Skanska will carry out a major motorway junction upgrade project worth €69.7 million (£55 million) in the UK. The two companies will operate on the project in a 50:50 joint venture to upgrade junction 30 of the M25 gyratory motorway around capital London. The deal was awarded by the UK’s Highways Agency. AVTODOR seeks another Moscow-St Petersburg motorway section bid

Russia's state highways agency AVTODOR has invited bids for construction of another section of the Moscow to St. Petersburg toll motorway. Starting cost of the bid to build the section from kilometre 58-149 is nearly US$1.2 billion. Investors will have to put up front 20% of the accepted bid cost to build the 91km section. The Polish construction consortium of Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman has won a tender to build a 22.6km section of the S3 express road between Silesian town of Legnica in the southwest and Lubin Poludiine, around 170km southeast of the capital Warsaw.
