Swedish study of road pollution

A study carried out in Sweden has highlighted the key risks of road pollution. The study was made by the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (Svenska Miljöinstitutet, IVL) and has shown that wear-and-tear from roads and tyres constitute the largest source of microplastics emissions. Indonesia expanding toll roads

Indonesia is continuing with its toll road expansion programme. The construction firm Jakarta Tollroad Development (JTD) is speeding up the construction of the six toll roads in Jakarta. The projects are expected to cost in the region of US$3.16 billion. These form part of the programme to construct 47 toll new roads, with this work making up Indonesia’s National Strategic Project. JTD is sourcing funding in the form of syndicated bank loan. Bank Mandiri is supplying this loans package.
Brazil transportation programme

Plans are being formulated in Brazil for second phase of the country’s logistics investment programme, PIL. This looks set to include 15 road sections, 11 of which are still in the project development phase. Other sections are in the public consultation phase, or waiting to be analysed by the Brazilian authorities. Vietnam plans major road expansion

Vietnam is working on plans for a major expansion of its expressway network. The plans call for a new network of expressways to be constructed by 2020. The programme of works calls for the construction of 21 new expressways, with a total distance of 6,411km. The new routes will connect major cities including Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ha Noi as well linking with Vietnam’s major seaports. Plans for Serbia-Kosovo highway

Plans are moving forward for a new highway that will link Kosovo’s capital Pristina with Belgrade, the capital of neighbouring Serbia. The project is of importance as it reveals the continued improvement in diplomatic relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Serbia’s Ministry of Construction says that work on the route will commence in the first half 2017. The financing model for the project has yet to be established. Talks are being held with European partners. The cost of the project has not yet been revealed

The Moroccan Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics is opening the bidding process for a series of highway projects. This first round of bidding will be for the prior assessment of the construction and operation of highways that will be put to out to contract under public-private partnership (PPP) model. UAE’s roads risky reports research

Market research carried out in the UAE reveals that residents of the country are concerned about poor driving. The survey was carried out by market research firm Yougov. Of the 1,003 UAE residents who responded, 79% said they had seen distracted driving on the country’s roads in the last six months. New BIM compatibility from Topcon and Autodesk

Topcon Positioning says that its DS-200i direct-aiming motorised imaging station is compatible with the new Autodesk BIM 360 Layout app for the Apple iPad. The DS-200i is the second total station solution that Autodesk and Topcon have collaborated on for contractors. Topcon says that the BIM 360 Layout app’s connectivity with the DS-200i offers a reflectorless solution along with imaging and increased vertical range over previous systems.
